Solutions Architect at ST Engineering iDirect works within the Solutions Business Group. He/she will be a highly motivated self-starter with strong written and oral communication skills and works well in a team environment.

 

This position requires working in close partnership with different technical teams. In addition, the Solutions Architect may work directly with Operations, Product Management, Marketing, Sales, and occasionally with STE iDirect customers.

Responsibilities

  • Working with Product Management and Vertical Markets to understand Customers/Markets needs and transcribe these into Solutions Architectures and Technical requirements.
  • Issuing and maintaining Architecture & System-level specifications documents, ICDs and system plans covering Satcom Terminals, Hardware and Software solutions covering NFV, SDN, Cloud based designs.
  • Working with development engineers to define internal and external software interfaces that perform the desired functionality, while ensuring optimal efficiency and robustness.
  • Contribution to the process of identification, qualifications and selection of new Solutions and Partners.
  • Providing technical support to Sales, Sales Engineering and other departments.
  • Working with specific Solutions Leads to maintain a coherent and optimized global architecture.
  • Maintaining high-level awareness of technology trends and competitive offerings/developments for Satcom (and adjacent technologies) with special focus on Mobility Terminals, Edge Solutions/Software and value-add applications including for IoT.
  • Maintaining high-level of awareness of complementary 3rd party technologies.
  • Continuous analysis and suggestion of possible paths to optimize, enhance and augment the proposed solutions/architectures.
  • Reporting to Solutions Development Director.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in systems engineering, telecommunications, computer science, or closely related field; MSCS/MSEE desirable

EXPERIENCE:

7+ years of industry experience in systems engineering, systems architecture design and Satcom.

  • Experience and advanced knowledge of solutions and technologies related to all or most of the following fields: Satcom, VSAT, IP networking, Edge Compute, Virtualization, Containerization, Cybersecurity
  • Knowledge of IP Networking protocols and standards, including TCP, UDP, ICMP, IGMP, MPLS, IPSec, Multicast, IP L3 Routing, L2 Switching, SD-WAN, SASE, etc.
  • Knowledge of IoT technologies and ecosystem is a plus
  • Knowledge of Satcom Antenna and RF Technologies, mechanical integration and associated software (OpenAMIP, OpenBMIP, Commissioning) is a plus.
  • Satellite Communication experience with DVB-S2/S2x, TDMA, SCPC.
  • Hardware design (compute, etc.) experience is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with VSAT network products is a plus.
  • Excellent skills for systems design, analysis and trade-offs evaluation.
  • Capability to learn quickly, evaluate ideas, and propose technical solutions
  • Capability to analyze and document customer requirements.
  • Capability to align technical features with business requirements.
  • Ability to foresee and navigate around the risks behind solutions development and make timely recommendations to Solutions Development Director.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Track record working with cross-functional teams in engineering and/or operations.
  • ‘can do’ attitude - willing to dive into and take ownership of critical design issues.
  • Capability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of developers, managers, clients, customers, etc.

  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and associated tools (e.g. Jira) is a plus.
