Role Overview

Reporting to the Head of Data, the Data Architect will play a pivotal role in designing, governing, and evolving the enterprise data architecture underpinning ILIM’s data platform.  Our chosen technology stack is Microsoft ADF, Snowflake and Power BI. You will ensure our data infrastructure supports current and future business needs, aligns with ILIM’s data strategy, and enables scalable, compliant, and performant data operations. This is a new role, created to support the implementation of the ILIM Data Strategy, and you will be instrumental in shaping the future of ILIM’s data platform and ensuring alignment with group-wide data initiatives

What you will help us to achieve

  • Deliver a best-in-class, user-centric, high-performing, and scalable cloud data platform using Snowflake, supporting ILIM’s data strategy and business needs.
  • Design and govern best practice data models (Operational Data Store & Data Warehouse), pipelines, data engineering standards, and security best practices within Snowflake and related technologies.
  • Work closely with the Data Team to plan, develop, and execute a roadmap of data products (insight delivery, reporting (Power BI), predictive analytics, automation, self-serve) focused on business value.
  • Support the delivery of AI initiatives through the provision of high-quality data products and guidance to relevant stakeholders on the capabilities available in Snowflake.
  • Enable ILIM to become a truly data-driven business, using insights to inform decisions, deliver growth, and improve performance.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to data team members, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Develop and maintain a strong focus on data governance and compliance, ensuring ILIM complies with relevant regulations and industry standards while maximising business utility of data. Build out a data quality monitoring framework to support data governance across ILIM.

What you will need to be successful in the role

  • You are a curious, detail-oriented person who is passionate about data and the impact it can have in an organisation.
  • An engineering mindset with proven experience building out large scale data platforms using Snowflake (big advantage) or similar with extensive knowledge on best practices for data pipelines, deployment, orchestration, cost and performance optimisation.  Forward thinking, ensuring we can continue to incrementally build out our data warehouse with ease.
  • A business focus – extensive experience designing and building dimensional data models based on Kimball Methodology principles: simplicity, flexibility, and focus on business requirements/processes.
  • Extensive experience building reusable design patterns for integrating data from multiple sources into a data platform like Snowflake, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and security in data integration processes while supporting scalable and efficient data engineering practices.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance in a regulated environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • The ability to partner with, influence, and relationship-manage diverse business stakeholders, bridging the gap between technical and business teams.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a track record of successful, on-time, and on-budget project delivery.
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. computer science, mathematics, engineering, data science, business, or a related discipline).

Desirable

  • Experience building Power BI Semantic Models for self-service BI.
  • Experience with Microsoft ADF.
  • Experience in financial services, asset management, or a similar data-rich industry is highly desirable.
